My Playdate with Maxton

September 7, 2026 (Labor Day)

Today, my friend Maxton came over to visit me for the Labor Day break. When he arrived, my parents escorted him into the house and told him that he was free to play with me.

First, we went to the piano room to play the piano. The room had two pianos: one upright piano manufactured by Kawai and one electric piano manufactured by Yamaha. Maxton apparently liked the electric piano more, so he settled in to play it while I played the upright piano.

Maxton asked if we had any Faber books, particularly the 2B books, and we said that we did. Later, Maxton told me that while the Faber books were easy, they had some of his favorite songs.

Then we went upstairs to play Minecraft. Maxton started his own survival world, where he got some good tools made of wood and stone. He also got some copper armor and a boat.

Finally, we played with LEGO bricks to make a game. One person spun a top while the other aimed a mechanical cannon and tried to shoot the top, though some obstacles blocked the cannon’s projectile. Both the top and the obstacles were made of LEGO bricks.

By this time, most of our two hours had already been used up, and Maxton’s parents were due to pick him up pretty soon. Because of this, we stopped playing and settled in to eat. There were dried cranberries and unsalted cashews.

Finally, Maxton’s parents arrived and sat down to eat too. After eating for some time, it was time for Maxton to leave. This playdate was exciting!
